The Charlemagne Tower

 

The Charlemagne Tower is located in the historic center of the city of Tours, it is a remnant of a basilica formerly dedicated to San Martin de Tours and destroyed between 1789 and 1802. 44Screens has worked with the History and Heritage service of the city of Tours to propose an experiment in augmented reality to live from then on the tower and its belvedere.

 

Therefore, equipped with digital tablets provided on site for the guided tour, visitors are invited to discover the history of the Charlemagne Tower in time:

 

· The different stages of its construction.
· His hectic life after the destruction of the basilica.
· The stages of its restoration.
· A augmented reality panorama of the city of Tours.

 

From the viewpoint of the Tower of Charlemagne and with the help of tablets, visitors visualize the panorama of the city with points of interest shown in augmented reality, 60 information points that present the monuments of the city enriched with textual, photographic and of video.

 

The evolution of the urban landscape: The application also helps to understand how the districts of the city of Tours have evolved during different periods in time. The device thus allows to offer a complete visit of the historical, geographical and tourist plans.

 

Thanks to this general vision of augmented reality, the discovery of the city and all its monuments becomes more captivating and interactive.
